Episode 1 - Recurrence
Release Date: 1994-03-21In Astragius Year 7247, the Gilgamesh Confederation and the Balarant Union continue to wage war. It has been 32 years since Chirico Cuvie and Fyana went into cryogenic stasis in a cold capsule that was launched into deep space. The cold capsule enters popular use as a way to rush injured soldiers away from the battlefield, but it's cynically called a "cold coffin" because being put in one could in essence lead to burial rather than treatment. Following a battle between the Gilgamesh and Balarant, many cold capsules begin to travel away from the battlefield. Workers at the Conplant space station in orbit of planet Manaura process the incoming cold capsules, including the one containing Chirico and Fyana. On Manaura, a ceremony to the god Marteal is performed to bestow the 13th rank of Marteal, the "Shield of Order" upon Teitania Montewells. The ceremony is interrupted by the arrival of a special envoy from the holy land Alegium. Inspector General Irin Noskowitz introduces himself to Cardinal Viachesrav Montewells and announces a message from the Council of Elders: Chirico has been resuscitated. Moving the meeting to a private room, Noskowitz explains to the church officials that the contract medics accidentally revived Chirico while treating other soldiers in cold capsules. The elders have decided that Chirico must be recovered and convinced to take a righteous path, or killed if he refuses. Old man Raht points out that 32 years ago, the Chief Scribes declared Chirico the Untouchable One, but Noskowitz counters that decision was made under the assumption Chirico would sleep forever. Noskowitz says that Chirico's existence is a contradiction to their faith. He then tells them it's their problem to deal with from now on. Raht thinks it's too coincidental that Chirico appears when Teitania is inducted into the Shield of Order, so he thinks Alegium must've woken Chirico. Another man thinks this must be a deliberate attempt to create a battle between Chirico and Teitania. Montewells visits Teitania during her maintenance period, so she speaks to him via her auxiliary brain. She says she knew the day would come when she would touch the untouchable. Teitania then wakes up and reminds her father that he said to increase her power as a Nextant, she would have to excel at AT piloting and defeat Chirico. Later, Teitania's shuttle takes off and flies up to Conplant. Chirico tries to get up and has trouble moving. He manages to slowly sit up and look over to Fyana, wondering if she'll be revived too. He tries to stand and falls to the floor, but two orderlies come in and put him back on the bed. They then close Fyana's capsule and wheel it away. Teitania walks into a bar and uses her enhanced hearing to eavesdrop on conversations. She overhears two men named Larkin and Zullo Baldec talking about a capsule retrieval racket that paid a high amount to revive Chirico and take Fyana to a specific location. Teitania walks up to their table and tells Larkin that she wants to meet Chirico. Baldec tells Larkin that she isn't the one, and the men in the bar all begin to look at Teitania. Two men attempt to attack her, but she easily deals with them and throws a bottle at a man with a gun. Larkin and Baldec run out the bar and hide behind a man with a Gatling cannon. The man opens fire, but Teitania easily dodges every bullet with her enhanced reflexes and attacks the man. Larkin and Baldec escape in an elevator and run to the room where Chirico is. Larkin opens the weapons locker where Chirico is hiding and grabs a bazooka, which he fires at Teitania. She swats the bazooka round aside and continues to come after them. Larkin tries to fire again, but she quickly grabs him by the neck and asks where Chirico is wand who paid for the job. Larkin says nothing, so she snaps his neck. After she leaves, Chirico stumbles out of the weapons locker and accidentally hits a bullet with his foot, which brings Teitania back into the room. Teitania asks Chirico to come with her, but he tells her that he's busy. He then escapes by sliding through a garbage chute, and Teitania follows him down into a junkyard. Chirico warns her not to get involved with him and says that he's set up explosives all around the room. Teitania ignores his warning and starts firing her machine gun at Chirico. The explosives go off, and she tosses a mine like a disc at a wall. Chirico stumbles away and checks a computer to find out where the cargo hold is. Teitania blasts her way into the room and starts shooting at Chirico again. He tosses a grenade and runs away, and the resulting explosion triggers more explosions across the station. Teitania uses her vision to track Chirico's footsteps to a hangar filled with tanks, helicopters and ATs. She walks over to his dropped machine gun, and he smashes through several boxes in a Scopedog. Teitania fires a bazooka at Chirico and dodges the fire he returns to her. One of Chirico's shots hits Teitania and blows away her cybernetic arm. Chirico asks Teitania if she's also a Perfect Soldier, and she tells him she's a Nextant. She tells Chirico she won't let him cause more damage to her and starts chanting a prayer to Marteal.

Episode 2 - Alegium
Release Date: 1994-05-21As more parts of Conplant explode, people desperately attempt to escape from the space station. As Chirico faces Teitania, Fyana is rushed away by Larkin and his partner. More explosions rock the station, and Teitania jumps to grab her bazooka. The floor begins to crumble underneath Chirico's Scopedog, and the entire hangar starts to collapse. Chirico falls to a lower level and stands up just in time to dodge Teitania's bazooka and escape. Chirico speeds through a corridor as Teitania rappels along the walls with a rope. Chirico reaches another hangar just as Fyana's capsule is loaded onto a shuttle. Chirico tries to approach the shuttle, but Teitania arrives and fires her bazooka at him. Chirico crashes into a girder while dodging Teitania's shots, and she uses the moment to jump onto his Scopedog's head. She asks him why he's running away, and he tells her to get out of his way. The hangar's outer door to space opens, and Teitania is almost sucked out into space. Chirico approaches the door and fires at the shuttle's docking clamps to disable it, but the shuttle manages to take off. The Scopedog then begins to float in zero gravity as the shuttle speeds away. Chirico uses his arm punch on a sheet of metal to propel himself back inside the hangar. Teitania tells Chirico she's disappointed and wonders why he's in such a bother about a woman. She then asks Chirico if he fears her, and he asks if she lacks fear altogether. A man from Teitania's shuttle calls and tells her that soon the shuttle won't be able to approach Conplant as it falls toward Manaura. Parts of the hangar begin to explode, so Chirico grabs Teitania and speeds away. Chirico drops Teitania inside a cold capsule room and abandons the Scopedog. She asks him why he's helping her after what's happened, and he says he's just helping her sleep. Teitania has a strange reaction when Chirico approaches and chokes him with her right hand. He's unable to break free, so he shoots both her legs to force her to let go. He then shoots Teitania's remaining arm and loads her into a cold sleep capsule. Teitania tells Chirico that Fyana isn't the one they're after, and Chirico launches her capsule. Conplant then breaks apart into three pieces and crashes onto Manaura's surface, setting off massive explosions in the desert. Three days later, Teitania undergoes maintenance at home and recalls walking through a war torn street. She saw her father in a jeep and ran towards him, but then a truck appeared from nowhere and ran her over. As she lay on the ground injured, an angered Montewells shoots the truck driver. Teitania then wakes up and asks Montewells about Chirico. Montewells asks Teitania about her auxiliary brain and why she didn't let it take control during the battle. Several men discuss the situation with Noskowitz and claim that Teitania wasn't truly defeated, and Noskowitz counters that Chirico wasn't victorious either. He thinks that Montewells will try to play it to his benefit and wonders how it will affect the succession of the pope. A few days later, Montewells and Teitania arrive at Alegium on Jiagono as part of the succession ceremony for Pope Theo VIII. Teitania asks what her father's chances of being nominated are, and a church man named Maori says it's doubtful, but her recent work might help with that. Montewells greets the decrepit Pope Theo, who can only speak with the help of assistants. Later, Montewells attends an inquiry regarding the Conplant incident, which has devastated parts of Manaura's surface and left them uninhabitable due to the nuclear explosion. Montewells points out that Chirico was on Conplant, and that there's no evidence he escaped from it. Montewells adds that Chirico was defeated not by an AT army, but by Teitania the Nextant. A church man then nominates Montewells for the papacy, which seems well received by the crowd. At Manaura's Ilyshin City, a doctor named Godiba pulls up to the hospital and grabs new supplies. He goes into a room and is shocked to see that a heavily injured patient has vanished. He thinks it's a miracle that someone so injured could get up and walk away. When he goes outside he sees the patient sitting on a wall - Chirico. Godiba wonders who Chirico really is.

Episode 3 - Pilgrimage
Release Date: 1994-07-21At Marteal's temple on Jiagono, church officials debate Montewells' nomination to the papacy. One man states that Montewells is qualified because of Chirico's defeat, and another questions the use of the Nextant. Noskowitz steps in and reminds everyone of the excommunication of the group that was researching Perfect Soldiers years ago. Noskowitz says that the creation of the PS itself was a crime, and he accuses Montewells of circumventing Alegium's authority to defeat Chirico. Another man says that a Nextant is the same thing as a PS and makes the accusation of heresy. Montewells speaks up to defend himself and asks why he would try to sway people's faith when he's seeking the papacy. He says that the drive to create ATs led to a monster like Chirico and asks how much longer the church should bear the existence of the Untouchable One. Noskowitz then asks why the PS project was a failure, and Montewells answers that they disregarded humanity and turned away from God. He thinks the Nextant is different because it has an auxiliary brain that increases a person's combat abilities. Montewells asks Teitania to take off her clothes so that everyone can see the difference between a Nextant and PS. Afterward, she leaves the chamber and walks through a hall filled with statues. She then finds her way down to a messy room filled with old books. She accidentally knocks over one of the books, which flips open and shows an old picture of Chirico with his friends Coconna and Vanilla Vartla. An aged Jean-Paul Rochina asks Teitania if she got bored of hearing the old men talking. She sees that Rochina is the one who is still collecting records about Chirico. She comments that the Chirico she encountered wasn't the same as the one she'd read about because he seemed to be a pitiful man who could only run away. Rochina yells at Teitania not to talk about Chirico as though she knows him, nd she asks Rochina if he's an expert on Chirico. She asks if Chirico could really be alive under such circumstances, and he tells her to convince him if she really thinks Chirico is dead. Outside Ilyshin City, Godiba meets with a commander who asks about him giving special treatment to a man who isn't one of their soldiers. He then identifies the man as Chirico and says they can't afford to take their eyes off him. The next day, Godiba asks Chirico what he plans to do, but Chirico says nothing, so Godiba gives him keys to a truck. Teitania continues to look through Rochina's collection, including pictures of Red Shoulder founder Yoran Pailsen. Rochina explains that Pailsen was the first man to try to observe Chirico. He then tells Teitania that Chirico has been found alive and laughs madly. He adds that plenty of people in Gilgamesh and Balarant worship Marteal, including the Manaura government forces. Teitania overhears her father being accused of lying, and Noskowitz laughs at Montewells' nomination. Teitania wants to go back to Manaura to confront Chirico, but Montewells tells her to bear her shame and wait. Gilgamesh Scopedogs enter into battle against Balarant Fattys on Manaura's surface. Godiba admits that he let it slip to his commander that he knew Chirico was the Untouchable One, and Chirico asks him what he wants. Godiba explains that 32 years ago there was a scandal over whether the church should acknowledge Chirico. At the time, Godiba was a follower, but he felt that he couldn't forsake the Untouchable One or the PS that was with him, so he got excommunicated. Godiba thinks that Fyana might be at the nearby spaceport, but they can't go in there casually. Chirico says that Godiba is the only person he can rely on because he needs an expert doctor to help Fyana. Chirico then drives away from the battlefield, and several Scopedogs give chase. Chirico asks if there's any weapons on the truck, but Godiba counters that a doctor wouldn't carry weapons. Chirico dodges the Scopedog fire and reaches a two lane road. He maneuvers the truck to cause barrels of liquid medicine to fall out. The barrels hit the Scopedogs, causing them to trip and fall. The truck approaches the spaceport and comes under long distance fire from a land battleship. At the spaceport, Chirico asks a receptionist for information, who pulls up a picture of Baldec. Chirico then walks off and heads to the area where cold capsules are stored. Godiba finds the bay that Baldec was using, but it's now empty. An employee tells them that the capsule left five days ago on a charter flight to Jiagono, and Godiba asks who claimed it, but the employee says he doesn't know. Later, Godiba tells Chirico that there's no direct flights from Manaura to Jiagono, and they'd have to wait three weeks for a connecting flight. That's a problem because Fyana can only last two weeks in a half resuscitated state. Chirico thinks there must be something they can do, and suddenly their truck is surrounded by a procession of Marteal pilgrims. Godiba asks one of them what's going on, and an old man tells him they're taking a pilgrimage to Alegium because Pope Theo will name his successor. Godiba tells Chirico this means there will be a flight they can take. At Alegium, Rochina tells Teitania about Serge Borough and Gimual Iskui, who researched the PS and were branded as heretics. He then tells Teitania about Fyana and how everything went wrong when she met Chirico. Teitania doesn't understand why Chirico went into the capsule because you can't wake yourself up from cold sleep. Rochina mentions that Fyana is awake, and that she must know the answer. Rochina laughs and says that Teitania reminds him of his younger self, and he adds that she's jealous of Fyana. Teitania insists that as a Nextant, she's different from a PS and has a mind of her own. Maori tells Montewells that opinion among the elders is now drifting toward Noskowitz. Elsewhere, Chirico and Godiba pose as pilgrims on a charter flight to Alegium.

Episode 4 - Critical
Release Date: 1994-09-21Spaceships carrying pilgrims arrive on Jiagono and land at Alegium, where deliberations have continued for days about the pope's successor. A man addresses the elders and declares his opinion that Montewells would be qualified to lead the church. Another man then steps forward to slam Montewells, and a peasant enters the room to deliver a message to Montewells. Montewells then asks for a brief recess and explains that there's proof that the person who revived Chirico is in Alegium. He then implies that Noskowitz is responsible and has Fyana's capsule wheeled in. Montewells says that someone in Alegium commissioned a contractor to bring the capsule there, and whoever that was awakened Chirico to damage his candidacy. Baldec then walks in and asks Noskowitz to pay him what they agreed, but Noskowitz protests his innocence and claims there's a conspiracy against him. Noskowitz asks Cardinal Gounod to open an inquiry to establish the facts, but Gounod says there's no time. Elsewhere, Godiba enters the hangar where Chirico is working on a customized Burglary Dog. Chirico is almost done, and Godiba hopes they can make it in time to get to Fyana. Chirico tells Godiba that he doesn't want him to revive Fyana, but to refreeze her. Teitania asks medical technicians about Fyana's state, and they explain that she's unstable. She orders them to revive Fyana fully and hopes that Chirico comes after Fyana so they can fight again. Godiba pilots a helicopter carrying the Burglary Dog and takes off for Alegium. A technician reports that Fyana is fully revived and should wake up soon. Teitania watches Fyana wake up and imagines herself punching the glass out of the capsule. Fyana asks Teitania who she is and where Chirico is. Fyana thinks that Teitania must be similar to her, and Teitania insists that Chirico is an enemy who she'll kill. Fyana says there's nothing she can do if Teitania is intent upon defeating Chirico, but she asks Teitania to love him in her place. Teitania then hears the sound of explosions outside. Alegium's defense systems activate at Godiba's helicopter approaches. Chirico gives the signal for Godiba to drop him on the ground. Chirico destroys a ground cannon, and Godiba takes some hits and crash lands, but he's able to jump out of the helicopter before it explodes. A battle alarm is sounded over the intruder with the AT, and Gounod thinks it must be Chirico. Noskowitz isn't sure, and Gounod explains that Chirico is never apart from Fyana, and now they've got her inside Alegium. Teitania runs outside and sees explosions in the nearby forest. She then enters the elders' chambers and hears the panicked old men beg Montewells to send her to fight Chirico. Montewells says he can't do that and explains that because the pope made her a Shield of Order, only the pope can give commands. Montewells then asks Pope Theo to name him immediately as successor so he can save Alegium. Pope Theo recalls years earlier that Montewells objected to classifying Chirico as the Untouchable One, having argued that they must do something about Chirico and not tolerate his existence. Pope Theo speaks through his attendants, but Noskowitz objects and falls to his knees when he's told to shut up. Pope Theo then decrees that Montewells will serve as the 730th pope. Outside, the church deploys its Erdspinne ATs to attack Chirico. Chirico dodges their fire by hiding behind trees and returns fire. Theo whispers to Montewells that he's finally made it, but there's no faith involved. Montewells counters that there's power, and Theo asks him if that's how he justifies turning his daughter into a living weapon. In his first act as pope, Montewells orders Teitania to defend Alegium from Chirico. An Erdspinne tries to arm punch Chirico, but he dodges the attack and destroys it with missiles. Teitania asks the defense force what the situation is, and they explain that Chirico has already destroyed seven ATs. Chirico gets onto the elevated highway and follows Godiba's directions. Teitania prepares to launch in her Order Buckler when Montewells comes to speak with her. He tells her the time has come to display the power of the new pope and Nextant. Teitania asks Montewells if he was the one who revived Chirico, and he explains that he did indeed do it so that he could rule over Alegium as the one who defeated the Untouchable One. However, Chirico's capsule was accidentally picked up before the plan was implemented. Noskowitz, Gounod and another man storm into the room, and Noskowitz shows proof that Montewells was lying about Chirico. Gounod vows to start an inquiry, but Montewells pulls out a gun and kills all three of them. Teitania then remembers that when Montewells killed the men who ran her over, they claimed to just be following his orders. She protests her father's actions, but he tells her to be grateful for becoming a Nextant. Teitania cries as she takes off, and Chirico destroys another Erdspinne on the highway.

Episode 5 - The Untouchable
Release Date: 1994-12-01As explosions rock Alegium, church elders panic at Chirico's impending approach. Several Erdspinnes rush into the temple's courtyard and ignore the safety of pilgrims as they fight Chirico's Burglary Dog. Chirico arrives and destroys several Erdspinnes in the courtyard before entering the main building. Godiba dresses up as a church man and sees mad Rochina talking to himself about Chirico, saying that Alegium will never bask in the light of glory again. Teitania rushes through an underground tunnel in her Order Buckler and thinks about what her father said to her. Montewells gets a battle report and declares that they'll create a new age for Marteal once Chirico is defeated. Chirico tries to radio Godiba and runs inter several Erdspinnes that attempt to trap him with wires. He fires several mortars and in the confusion gets to higher ground to destroy the Erdspinnes. He then climbs onto an AT elevator, and at the same time Godiba reaches the medical room where Fyana is. He shoots at a technician who attempts to press an alarm button. Godiba rushes over to check on Fyana, and she asks when Chirico is coming. As Chirico rides the elevator, he comes under attack from Erdspinnes climbing the shaft on grappling wires. He destroys some Erdspinnes and shoots out the wires of others. He then fires rockets at the part of the ceiling they shot their wires into, causing it to collapse and destroy them. Chirico reaches the top of the shaft and is immediately attacked by Teitania, who punches his rocket launcher. Teitania identifies herself and claims that she'll fulfill her duty to defend Alegium. Chirico comments that he must have bad luck to keep running into Teitania when he's busy, and she tells him he has more trouble because Fyana is fully awake now. Chirico then opens fire and tries to run away. Montewells is informed that Gilgamesh and Balarant fleets are in orbit and have come to offer help in defending Alegium. Montewells calls both commanders and thanks them for their offers, but says their own defense forces can handle it and keep Alegium as neutral ground. Montewells orders Maori to activate Teitania's auxiliary brain at full capacity, but Maori counters that they haven't tested the control system or prepared Teitania. Montewells doesn't care if only the auxiliary brain survives, because they can make another Nextant. A large gate closes in front of Chirico, forcing him to face Teitania. She tells him that he'll have to defeat her if he wants to see Fyana again. Maori activates the auxiliary brain, and Teitania suddenly rushes in to attack Chirico. She knocks away his machine gun and drives a harpoon into the Burglary Dog's cockpit, injuring Chirico. Chirico responds by arm punching the Order Buckler's cockpit, creating a hole. Chirico tries to punch her again, but she punches his cockpit multiple times and knocks the Burglary Dog over with a kick. Montewells watches the battle and mocks Chirico's superhuman nature and status as the Untouchable One. Chirico stumbles out of the Burglary Dog's cockpit and pulls out his gun. He falls over as he shoots the gun, and the bullet ricochets off the ground and goes into the Order Buckler's cockpit, hitting Teitania in the auxiliary brain. Chirico wakes up and hears Godiba calling him over his helmet's radio to come see Fyana quickly. Chirico asks about the refreezing, and Godiba tells him it's too late. Chirico hears Fyana's voice and rushes over. Teitania picks up Chirico's helmet and tells Godiba that Chirico is on his way. She rips out her damaged auxiliary brain and says she can't deny Chirico's status as the Untouchable One. Godiba tells her that Fyana is dying and explains that the predicted lifespan of a PS is two years, which means that Fyana has used up her time. Godiba thinks that's why Chirico and Fyana went into the cold capsule, so she can live eternally. But refreezing her won't help now. Fyana cries out in pain and asks for strength so she can live for Chirico's sake. She then remembers asking Chirico if they would wake up in a world without conflict just before they were frozen in the capsule. He thinks that they will, but no matter what they'll be together. Just before freezing, Fyana asked Chirico to stop it because he shouldn't have to go into eternal sleep because of her, but he said it was fine. A heavily wounded Chirico finally reaches the medical room and finds Fyana waiting for him. Fyana hugs Chirico and tells him they made a promise that they'd be together when they woke up. He apologizes, and she dies in his arms. Later, Rochina looks at the cold capsule, which is now Fyana's coffin. He thinks she might've been the Untouchable One all along. Several months later, Godiba and Teitania drive through the desert, and he tells Teitania not to blame herself because Fyana was probably happy to see Chirico again. They stop when they see Chirico in the distance. Teitania gets out of the truck and calls out to Chirico, but he can't hear her because a plane is landing nearby. Maori tells Chirico that the church wants to put the past conflicts aside, and Montewells wants to reconcile. Maori asks him to join the church, and Chirico angrily tells Maori to never approach him again. He says he has to be on his way and leaves. Recording the details of the incident, Rochina notes that Teitania never spoke to her father again. He wonders if someone can comprehend the real meaning of Chirico's revival and what his destiny is. As Chirico walks through the desert, Teitania follows and declares that even if they never speak again, she'll always love him because she understands he was the reason why she was born.
