Episode 1 - 16 October 1972
Release Date: 1972-10-16Jack Sugden has come home for his father's funeral after a 9 year absence. The rest of the family resent him because his father left him the farm. New neighbours Marion Wilks and her father Henry, want to build a road through the Sugden farm. Jack has taken a shine to Marian Wilks, but she wants nothing to do with him.

Episode 2 - 17 October 1972
Release Date: 1972-10-17Wilks lawyer Peters says he has the right-of-way on the Sugden land. Joe chats with Marian and they become friends. 250 hens have to be destroyed because of a disease. Joe and Jack find a shot bird on the property and suspect Henry Wilks is poaching.

Episode 3 - 23 October 1972
Release Date: 1972-10-23The hens have been disposed of but Jack refuses to get any more. Having discovered an old mill house on the land, he decides to live there and give the farm to Annie, Peggy and Joe. Peggy discovers she is pregnant and wants to leave home. Joe teaches Marian how to fish.

Release Date: 1972-10-24It is revealed that Jack has a secret life with "Lynn" in London, and is hiding from something. Marian's car breaks down and Jack helps her out. It starts to rain and they run for an abandoned farm where he tells her that he likes her. He gets a letter to meet with Wilks lawyer about access to his land.

Release Date: 1972-10-30Joe finds out from Amos that Jack was seen coming out of the barn with Marian. He goes to the Wilks farm to find Jack is there. Since Marian broke Matt's fishing rod that Peggy gave him, Joe borrows money from 3 people to fix it. When Annie finds out, she confronts Joe. Peggy is angry that Matt is doing all the work while Jack and Joe are chasing Marian.

Episode 6 - 31 October 1972
Release Date: 1972-10-31Jack does not want to work so he asks Matt to hire someone. Joe overhears Jack telling someone on the phone to meet him at the Feathers on Wednesday. The Wilks are looking for a gourmet cook and Marian asks Annie. She also asks if there is a good restaurant, and Joe recommends the Feathers for Wednesday, hoping Marian will catch Jack with another woman. The right of way issue is solved, but Jack tells Wilks, that if he opens a road, the rovers also have the right to pass through the Wilks manor.

Release Date: 1972-11-06Jack tells Wilks if he uses the new road, it must also be open to the public to use. Wilks doesn't want people passing through his property, so he decides to scrap the whole lawsuit. Joe is having a quiet drink, when Ruth joins him to ask about Jack. Her jealous husband comes in and tells her to get home to the children.

Release Date: 1972-11-07Matt has a job interview in Bradford in two days. Jack goes to the Feathers to meet Lynn. She has registered under Sugden. The Wilks are also at the same hotel and Henry spots Jack and Lynn together. He inquires at the desk and finds out she is Jack's wife, and gets Marian out of there before she sees them. Joe shows up and finds out too.

Release Date: 1972-11-13Tom tells Ruth about a car accident between Henry and Joe. Matt talks to Jack about a new van. Tom asks Jack for a job. PC Ball asks Amos if Joe had been at the Woolpack drinking before the accident.

Release Date: 1972-11-14Matt has his interview today. Ruth goes to see Jack and realizes that there is nothing between them. Joe has woken up and is in bad shape, While Wilkes has a compound fracture in his leg. Tom starts work at the farm and is not pulling his weight.

Release Date: 1972-11-20Matt tells Peggy that he did not get the job and she goes after Jack for money. Matt tells Jack that Tom is lazy. Tom gets Ruth to go to the Woolpack because he wants to bump into Jack. He shows him pictures of his eldest son also named Jack. PC Ball questions both Joe and Henry in the hospital.

Release Date: 1972-11-21Tom starts throwing threats about Jack being the real father of Tom's son Jackie. Ruth begs Jack to sack him. Marian breaks off with Jack, then he sacks Tom. Ruth has packed up, and asks Tom if he is coming with her to her sisters to live.

Release Date: 1972-11-27Henry is home from hospital. Jack buys a new van for Matt and Peggy. Annie realizes Jack has more money than he is letting on. PC Ball is back to tell Joe that his insurance has expired. Janie visits Joe.

Release Date: 1972-11-28Jack makes an enemy in Janie after embarrassing her in front of his family. Meanwhile, Henry is knocked unconscious after having a fall, and is later found by Marion and Norman.

Release Date: 1973-01-01Henry asks Joe if he would be interested in running Jameson's Farm for him. Jack angrily tells Marian that she should put Joe straight about educating himself to impress her. Joe informs Henry he'll think about the job, he also recommends Matt for it. Jameson calls in at The Woolpack for the first time in the last five years. Annie and Joe row over him trying to better himself for Marian. Janie and Frank have a drink together in The Woolpack. Jameson talks to Amos about the Sugdens and the Wilks. Peggy is down as she feels stuck in a rut. Jack drinks with Janie and Frank at Frank's cottage.

Release Date: 1973-01-02Joe tells Matt to think about himself and his future and let Jack worry about Annie. Annie asks Jack to buy her a washing machine. Amos visits the farm to deliver a message for Jack - can he arrange a hotel for his friend Bart. Marian and Joe clear the air. Joe tells Henry that he still wants him to give the farm manager's job to Matt, Henry is impressed by Joe's kindness. Annie catches Sam sneaking downstairs to steal food from the kitchen. Harry visits Annie and tells her that Henry wants to buy his farm, he offers to sell to Jack - for a higher price.

Release Date: 1973-01-08Marian visits Frank and asks him to make front gates for Inglebrook House, she is amazed to see a book written by Jack Sugden, and borrows it from Frank. Jack is furious that Bart told his family about him being an author of a best selling book claiming that having money makes him feel guilty. The Sugdens and Skilbecks discuss having an author in the family. Joe receives his court summons. Jack shows the old millhouse off to Bart. Bart recognises the building from 'The Field of Tares'. Marian is glued to Jack's book. Amos offers Janie a job as barmaid in The Woolpack.

Release Date: 1973-01-09Amos writes out a list of possible wives after someone tells him that the brewery will be looking for a couple to run The Woolpack once it has been redecorated. Jack feels bad that he has ruined Matt's chances of a good job. Jack is embarrassed when he finds that Marian has read his book but they row about its content. Jameson tries to play Henry off against Jack Sugden by inflating the price of his farm each time he speaks to them.

Release Date: 1973-01-15Sam is keen to read Jack's book. Jack tells Marian that Lynn Wallace was his common law wife and explains that they met at The Feathers to complete a settlement. Marian admits that she would like to marry Jack, but she's also aware that he doesn't want to marry. She tells him she would not hurt her father by just living with him. Janie and Frank make plans for their wedding. Amos and Harry discuss possible brides for Amos among the village women. Frank and Janie toast their engagement with Marian and Jack, but Jack rushes out when Frank mentions his book. Harry mentions Annie to Amos as a potential wife which gets him thinking. A new washing machine arrives at Emmerdale Farm, but nobody can get it to work.

Episode 26 - Tue 16 Jan, 1973
Release Date: 1973-01-16Marian is busy packing for her Greek Islands cruise. Wilks talks to her about Jack's book and the correlation with the millhouse. Harry arrives at the farm to talk to Jack about the sale of his farm. However, Jack has spent the night sleeping at the old millhouse. He talks to Frank about marriage. Amos smartens himself up. Frank asks Jack to be his best man and he accepts. They talk about marriage again, Frank makes Jack think. Pride stops Jack altering the millhouse as he will have to ask Henry's permission because he is the owner of the freehold. Jack produces a document making the farm over to Annie, Joe, Peggy and Sam in equal parts. Sam doesn't want his part. The family discuss the farm's future. Harry gets hold of Jack and says Henry has countered his offer, he tries to extort a higher price from Jack. Jack tells him to sell to Henry. Annie and Peggy marvel at the new washing machine.

Release Date: 2005-06-17Zoe is impressed by Scott’s recent paternal decision and shocks him by asking if he’d like to accompany her and Jean by moving to California. Scott can’t believe his luck and all his feelings for Zoe come flooding back. Will he be forced to break the news to his mum Viv? Meanwhile in the Woolpack work-shy Tamsin wonders how hard bar work can be and offers her services to Diane. Diane tells her that she needs someone with more experience but can Tamsin convince her she is the right barmaid for the job?
